 Message from the Vice-chancellor

The Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, established in October 1999 has shown potential for rapid and steady development over the past 17 years.  As its 5th Vice-Chancellor, my mission for the University is that it should become a centre of excellence in higher education in the SAARC Region by the year 2025.  This would entail the development of both human and physical resources to match the national and international standards and benchmarks through innovative academic programmes, research and outreach programmes.  Continuous improvement of the quality and relevance of existing degree programmes and initiating new academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be of importance to reach the above objective.  Further, every effort will be made to increase student admissions to contribute to the Government’s target of facilitating 50,000 students for higher education by 2020.

Increase of overall productivity, efficiency of resource usage and effectiveness of services together with state-of-the-art resource will play a significant role in the move of the University towards excellence in higher education.  With today’s fast and effective information and communication technology facilities, fostering university-industry interaction, knowledge sharing, research collaborations can be effective tools for development of staff and students, and especially, ensuring the production of quality students whose employability can be ascertained in a competitive world.

The Wayamba University of Sri Lanka will gain in strength and stature in its march towards excellence and I am pleased to invite you to be partners of our mission.
